The Mall

How do you think the mall property should be handled? What would you like to see there? Do you believe the newly formed Bristol Downtown Development Corporation was a wise choice to handle the issue?

I like your plan to handle the cleanup and proposal process for developing the land, the one think I would like to see put into place is a definite timetable for each step in the process. Too many times, plans are made without set times for what to happen when.

What ever is going to get things moving is the way it should go. That Center Mall is a complete waste of money the way it is now and it is a total eye sore. North Main Street looks so nice with the renovations made which leads up to what? Nothing! Once the 72 expansion is made, we can get some big names down there. I can't wait to see the finished project, if it ever does get completed.

I think we should get out of the real estate business and sell the mall to a developer. We are continuously spending money for experts and nothing gets done.

I believe that now that the Ocean State Job Lot issue is behind us, we should be able to realize this in a progressive manner.

I am 100% in favor of this land still being used as retail establishment. Having lived in Plainville, and now Bristol, all my life, I have seen the mall close and sit idle now all these years. It brings to mind the plaza in Symsbury now called Symsbury Commons. That was once an inclosed mall that became vacant, only to be turned into a thriving open air plaza with stores and even a Hoyts Movie complex. Every time I go by there I think of what can be here in Bristol.

I agree and am optimistic that by utilizing the expertise of qualified private developers, we can also realize a positive experience for the future of our downtown area.

I was reading the latest election story in the Courant this morning and noticed that the cleanup of Riverside Ave. was a topic related to the Rt.72 expansion. Do you support the non-closing of Riverside Ave. on certain days, as it is done now on weekends, after Rt.72 expansion is completed? I just see a major bottleneck if the closing still continues.

I would expect that the city will experience a myriad of new considerations and changes as a result of the impact of Route 72.
I believe that we will need to experience and assess these issues as they evolve.
